Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving. I think it's probably one of my favorite holidays. It's not as stressful as Christmas, and I love Thanksgiving food. Stuffing...pumpkins...apple pie. Yum! I know that a turkey is usually the star of the Thanksgiving table, and obviously I wish people wouldn't be eating turkey, but I know most people don't share my opinion and I don't expect people to ditch the turkey just because I of me. I just take more of the yummy side dishes.

Anyway, I've been planning my Thanksgiving menu for far to long. Thanksgiving isn't a holiday in Germany, of course, so it will just be me and one or two friends. And we'll be eating on Sunday, not Thursday, but oh well.

This is what I think I'll make:

Green salad with balsamic vinaigrette and dried cranberries OR beets with roasted chickpeas and a dijon vinaigrette

Roasted garlic mashed potatoes
Stuffing
Stuffed mushrooms
Roasted, balsamic-glazed Brussles sprouts with apples and onions
Cherry relish (can't get cranberries here)
Caramelized onion gravy

Pumpkin Streusel Cake from Sunday Suppers at Lucques
Apple pie, if I can be bothered

Ok, so I need your opinions: which salad do you think I should make? And, I know this is enough food, but do you think it will be "satisfying" since there really isn't a main dish? Let me know! And tell me what you're making for Thanksgiving!

I would go with the green beans--it's not thanksgiving without them!

I'm going to an omni thanksgiving, so I'll be bringing maple mustard green beans and pumpkin chocolate chip bars. I'm also thinking that a loaf of bread might be a nice addition--but that's to buy, not to make. Your Thanksgiving sounds lovely--I wish I could host my own!

I think there's plenty of food, and it all sounds yummy and "satisfying." It's Thanksgiving, so go all outand make the salad anyway. I vote for beets!

Yummm...sounds so good! I think you should go with the beet salad--it sounds more fall-like and Thanksgivingy (if that is a word)!

Have a great "Thanksgiving"!

I think that you should turn the roasted brussel sprouts into pot pies and then skip the apple pie. This would up a veggie side dish to main dish status and combine two dishes in one thus simplifying your cooking plan. It all sounds delicious! Happy Almost Thanksgiving! (Ack I better get busy!)

I agree - even though I'm the only herbivore in the group, my family is so supportive that I refuse to alienate them during this holiday (or anytime, for that matter - and they don't even eat that much meat to begin with!)

Luckily, my dishes will dominate at our huge Thanksgiving feast (20+ people in attendance!) Your Thanksgiving meal plan sounds perfect!! I hope to see pictures of everything, after the holidays :0)

While I've never believed that veg*ans need a main dish (since there are SO many side dishes) on Thanksgiving, I've been seeing a ton of great recipes for stuffed pumpkins this season. There's also stuffed squash-- I like doing a butternut squash stuffed with a wild rice mixture.

Anyway, what you've got going sounds delicious. So happy Thanksgiving!

I say go with the chickpea salad. Beans are 'meatier' than greens.

Everything on the list sounds wonderful and filling. =)

I would go with a green salad, to cut the heavy savoriness of the other dishes. Oh, and you know how I feel about "veg on veg" so I definitely think that meal will be plenty satisfying!

Your dinner sounds delicious.
I think the beet salad would be great...but I also agree with Bazu, the freshness of the greens are light and would crisp up the meal.
Oh decisions, decisions.

Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy your families everyone.
